Local job losses, rising prices, and safety net cuts mean that more DC residents are struggling to afford rent, child care, and basics like food and gas. At the same time, DC’s wealthiest households and corporations are getting massive tax cuts from the federal government.

A Wealth Proceeds Tax Would Address Extreme Inequality 

DC lawmakers can increase taxes on the wealthy to increase affordability and build an economy that works for everyone. A wealth proceeds tax asks people with passive income to pay an additional local percentage on an existing federal tax on wealth that exceeds a certain threshold. This tax would largely fall on the very wealthy.
