Mayor Bowser’s Proposed FY 2027 Budget Runs Counter to Stated Goal of Economic Growth
The mayor claims that her proposed investments are focused on job growth, but in fact guts pay for child care workers, whose work also help parents can go to work.
DC Fiscal Policy Institute Executive Director Erica Williams released the following statement following the release of Mayor Bowser’s proposed fiscal year 2027 budget:
“Mayor Bowser’s final budget, like the past few, is full of broken promises and disproven ideas to the detriment of workers and residents struggling with DC’s rising cost of living. The mayor claims that her proposed investments are focused on job growth, but in fact guts pay for child care workers, whose work helps ensure parents can go to work. She boasts about supporting businesses while sweeping the tax dollars employers pay to fund their workers’ paid medical leave for other purposes. As-is, the mayor’s proposed budget will harm vulnerable residents and exacerbate racial inequities while squandering DC’s limited resources on corporate giveaways.”
