DCFPI Welcomes Shira Markoff as New Director of Economic Policy

The DC Fiscal Policy Institute is excited to welcome Shira Markoff as our new Director of Economic Policy. Shira will help manage and advance the organization’s economic policy research and advocacy agenda focused on building an inclusive economy.

Shira previously worked as a Senior Policy Fellow for Prosperity Now, where she led strategies to advance policies that build wealth and financial stability and address the racial wealth divide, such as baby bonds. Previously, she ran programs that helped New Yorkers access public benefits and provided free tax preparation with Seedco. Shira also served two years as an AmeriCorps*VISTA and is a long-time volunteer with Jews United for Justice.

Shira holds a Master of Public Policy degree from American University and a B.A. in history from Rutgers University.

Shira lives in Dupont Circle and loves exploring DC’s historic sites, parks, and museums. She is kept busy by her energetic cat (Ketzie) and also enjoys reading, theater, knitting, yoga, and Zumba.
