DCFPI Welcomes Diana Chavez as our Early Childhood Education Intern!

Diana Chavez Cruz joins the DC Fiscal Policy Institute (DCFPI) as our new policy intern, where she will support the organization’s research and advocacy on early education policies in the District of Columbia.

Diana is a recent graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, where she earned a degree in economics and minored in education, with a concentration in Latinx studies. During her undergraduate experience, she served as a corps member for Jumpstart, an AmeriCorps program. Through this program, she worked at a preschool in a low-income neighborhood, where she implemented early childhood curricula, worked with preschool children, and supported family involvement. This experience gave her a deep understanding of the challenges faced by underserved communities and the critical importance of early education. She also spent her summers volunteering with Latinas Leading Tomorrow, leading Scratch tutorials to introduce middle school girls to STEM.

Her commitment to education policy is shaped by her firsthand experience attending Title I public schools. She is eager to intern at DCFPI because she aspires to become a leader in education policy and make a meaningful impact. This opportunity aligns with her goal of expanding access and opportunities, especially for children in immigrant communities like hers. In her free time, she enjoys exploring different bubble tea shops, going on walks, and reading Marvel comics.
