Join DCFPI at a press conference this evening at 6pm at the Atlas Theater on H Street NE, right before Vince Gray’s last neighborhood Town Hall meeting.
At the press conference, a coalition of advocates, residents, and service-providers will launch a campaign to preserve important public services during the budget crisis – by raising progressive taxes. The city’s $175 million budget shortfall, and threats of cuts to resolve it, puts into jeopardy the important investments that the city has made in schools, libraries, recreation centers, and health care. Vince Gray has stated that we already have cut services past the bone and down “to the marrow.” A cuts-only approach also would devastate the city’s ability to address rising poverty and the related needs that become even more pressing in a struggling economy. Raising revenue is an important measure the city should take toward a balanced approach to budgeting.
The launch press conference will be Wednesday, October 27 at 6:00 at the Atlas Theater, 1333 H Street, NE. It will occur just before Vince Gray’s Ward 6 Town Hall meeting.
