Here at DCFPI we often focus on the local funds budget, the money we raise through income, sales and property taxes to pay for vital city services. Though locally-raised taxes and fees make up a majority of our funding, DC does receive a significant amount of federal dollars that help pay for critical programs.
That’s why this report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorites caught our eye. According to the Center’s analysis, DC will receive $72 million from the jobs bill passed by the House of Representatives and signed by President Obama Tuesday. Many of these monies had already been budgeted to help provide money for public school classrooms and health care. As the chart shows, DC will receive $54 million for education and $18 million for medicaid.
In these tight budget times, that’s a big boost.
