The lack of affordable housing options is one of the biggest challenges facing the District. Over the last decade, DC has lost a significant share of its low-cost housing, and as housing prices continue to rise much faster than incomes, more and more residents face difficult choices about putting a roof over their heads or food on their table. So DCFPI is excited to join DC residents from across the city at the Housing for All campaign rally this Saturday.
The Housing for All campaign, spearheaded by the Coalition for Housing and Nonprofit Development, seeks to ensure that “DC…invest in the programs that ensure no one is homeless, rent is affordable, people are not displaced and homeownership is possible.”
Housing for All is calling for investments in DC’s key affordable housing programs such as the Housing Production Trust Fund — which helps maintain and build affordable housing — and in the Local Rent Supplement program, which helps make housing affordable for very low-income families.
Mayor Gray and the DC Council made a big commitment to put funds for affordable housing in this year’s budget, but that kind of investment will need to be made each year to ensure DC is continuing to add affordable housing opportunities. So please join the Housing for All campaign and DCFPI this Saturday to make your voice heard about the need to tackle one of DC’s greatest challenges — affordable housing for all.
